Winter outfit building with Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars

In my last post I mentioned how you could build up an outfit for winter with you favourite pair of converse. These builds have been made on Polyvore, a great website for styling outfits and for getting inspirations for the future. Winter outfit building with Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars

Review of my All Star Converse high tops!

So the other day I purchased a brand new pair of high top Converse, and I am excited to now be writing a review for them on my blog.

Let me just start off by saying how comfy they are! The faux sheep fur lining also kept my feet warm and away from the cold. I found the trainers so comfy that they may replace my ballet flat for my day to day shoe. Not only do they keep my feet warm, but the thick sole also keeps my feet dry from the rain and wet pavements. They have also sealed up the air holes found at the side, which I believe to be a new feature, as I am sure my old converse had the holes functional and open. This causing water to seep into my old shoes when raining which was very annoying.

These trainers will literally go with anything, and although trainers have become the shoe of choice for a cheap night out, I think I will stick to wearing them during the day, for university and shopping trips with the girls. The only thing I found I didn't like was that the top of the shoe began to catch/rub on the top of my ankle when I walked, but that could easily be solved by wearing bigger socks not trainer socks like me.

On the day I wore them I paired them with a classic pair of skinny black jeans, a jumper, my aviator jacket with faux sheep skin collar, and check scarf. As you can imagine I was braving the cold night.

Although I wore my converse with quite a simple outfit you could definitely play around with these and wear them with a pair of leather pants turned up to the ankles, with shift tunic layered underneath a statement leather jacket, accessorised with a faux fur snood, and matching hat/headband. Or for a smarter look, try pairing them with a pair of leather look leggings, a wool knit coat (with layers underneath), cashmere scarf, and a pair of classic leather gloves.

I will make a collection of these ideas and post them on my blog to give you some visual inspiration.

#ootd Black on black on black on Burberry scarf.

Today's outfit of the day was definitely one of those "I'm in a rush so grab and go" moments. Typical for my wardrobe that it was all black, so I decided to add a bit of colour with my new Burberry silk scarf. I love it as you would imagine, it's my new favorite add on and will look great all year round.

I paired it with a pair of leather look treggings, a black chiffon-es shirt and my handy leather biker jacket.

My outfit consisted of:

Shirt: Mango, £29.99,
Trousers: Daisystreet.co.uk approx £19
Leather Jacket: Oasis £185
Shoes: George at Asda £12
Scarf: Burberry £225

Got my winter shoe sorted!

Converse have been on my mind ever since I had to throw away my old pair from wearing them to death. I've been putting it off for ages, but today I got a 40% off BANK clothing voucher from university, so decided I may as well pop in and see.

Needless to say I found my perfect pair. Not quite hightops but not the plimsoll ones I had before. And due to my adventurous (lack of concentration) nature to walk through shallow puddles I went with the black pair to avoid having to wash them everyday. But they will also go with anything so it's a win win really.

They will be great through winter as they have a sheep fur like layering so will keep my feet nice and cosy and away from the cold air.

Here is a picture, they retail at £55 but I got them for £33 BARGAIN!

'The Perfect Suit' My analysis.

So an assignment over reading week, set by my Fashion and Textiles Business tutor was to look at the BBC 4 documentary The Power Suit and answer a few questions relating to it, which she gave us on a sheet.

The documentary was really interesting, you can access it on YouTube (as it isn't available on i Player). I watched it in four parts, which I will link you to part 1/4 at the end of my post. It goes over the suit history and influences from the 18th Century to the current 21st century, and how the idea of the suit has changed as well as it's technological advances.

It was based on the masculinity of the suit and how it has changed for the male audience over the years, however I was taken back by the lack of coverage on the trouser suit for women made famous by designers like Chanel back in the 20's, as surely that would effect the image of the masculinity for the man of the same era, but never the less this historic time in fashion was cut out.

I would highly recommend this documentary to anyone studying tailoring, or looking at the history of suiting, as it includes many great names such as Paul Smith and Charlie Allen, as well as visiting the Berwin & Berwin factory in Budapest to look at where the majority of high street suiting is constructed.

Here is a link to part 1/4 of The Perfect Suit, I hope you enjoy. I have also thrown in a few of mine own images of suits from one of my favorite suit designers Ted Baker, I took these earlier this year for a menswear design project.

I've recently decided to cut my bangs, and I love them! I've had a full fringe once before and hated it but I decided to take the risk and go for it. It's definitely one of my favorite looks and right on trend for winter. However there is a downside, at least every two weeks I have to make a trip to the hairdresser (which is luckily my mum) and have it trimmed.

I have decided that it is totally worth it though. And it's most likely going to stay until the summer until it gets to hot to handle.

Here is a little collection collage of me posing with my bangs.

In these images I am wearing Illamasqua powder foundation and Ruby & Millie lipstick. They are my new favorites!

Enjoy

My First Assignment- The Design Process.

One of my first assignments from uni was to look at the design process in fashion and in more detail how research plays an important role in such process.

We were allowed to put ourselves into groups and crack on, and when deadline day would grace me with it's presence, I would have a sketchbook full of research and a presentation board.

We first went on a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry, to collect relevant research. I loved this visit I took various images through out all the buildings. I think its a great place to visit in Manchester city centre.

Our assigned theme was recycled materials, but we had to then chose a sub theme to branch into as a group and after much discussion we chose home ware. As part of our design process we had to come up with a design and creation related to both themes of recycled materials and home ware and as a group I think we achieved that. I get my feedback next week and how we did on the assignment so fingers crossed we did well.

Here are a few images from the assignment.

I'm Back!

Yes I would say looking at my blog and seeing that my last post was in mid May to be pretty pathetic, but hey I'm a busy gal!

Okay not really but I am back and here to be serious. I recently started my new course at Huddersfield Uni and am so relieved I decided to transfer. It's like a breath of fresh air and I could not be happier.

One of my assignments through out the year is to blog about my various projects and my overall experience studying my first year on such buying course. Sounds easy enough right? But judging by the length of time passed from my last post I think I'd best start getting my bum into gear.

I've really tried and researched many blogs and topics before coming back to blogging and I think you'll see a few varied posts coming your way. Obviously its without obligation that you will see my progression through out my first year on my uni degree but I'm also going to throw in a dabble of beauty, and a dash of fashion news.

So keep your eyes peeled world, Laura is coming!
